Conductive, durable, flexible and resistant to corrosive atmospheres

Although individual carbon nanotubes are very conductive, the problem is to translate these properties onto their macroscopic assembly and various attempts to overcome this issue remind of the search for the El (Hombre) Dorado. Attempts to find the mythical place where the gold of a South American tribal chief was hidden lasted many years and required significant effort. It is very similar in the case of nanotubes wherein the research community elaborates numerous strategies to somehow connect the individual carbon nanotubes and make a highly conductive path for the transport of charge carriers through their macroassembly.

All that glitters is... conductive?

As we found out, it seems that deposition of small clusters of metal atoms can "solder" these tubes together and significantly improve the conductivity. What is important, such composites are very durable, flexible and resistant to hazardous chemicals, what makes them very attractive for the application in harsh conditions as compared with commonly used for this purpose: copper and aluminum.
