What is it all about?

In a Nutshell

Carbon nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes or graphene have showed great promises to become successors of many materials we see all around us due to their extraordinary characteristics. They have the capabilities to surpass them in terms of electrical, thermal, mechanical and other properties by orders of magnitude.

The key is in gaining a precise control over their nanostructure to tailor it exactly to the specific needs. This breakthrough can be made by using an innovative method developed in-house.

Funding

National Science Center in Poland will generously support this development in the course of Polonez fellowship from October 2016 for the next 24 months. The project Fundamentals of electrical properties of chirality-defined carbon nanotube macroassemblies has received 856,984 PLN (ca 193,000 EUR) co-funded from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No. 665778

Project History

D.Janas, M.Rdest and K.Koziol develop the method of nanocarbon film manufacture at University of Cambridge during execution of a Proof of Concept ERC project called Thawing.

Then, the inventive process is optimized for best effects.

Patent application is filed to protect the invention.

Polonez funding is awarded to take this project to the next level.

The project starts in October 2016.

Technology Features

We have created a unique method of formation of thin free-standing films from carbon nanostructures of any size/shape having tailored composition for a specific application

Having predetermined nanostructure

The architecture can be designed at the nanoscale level to suit best the desired application

Simple

Readily deposited onto the place of application as nanofilm patches or directly painted on the surface

Flexible

Can be bent virtually unlimited number of times at high bend angles while maintaining the properties

Durable

Withstand ultra-low/high temperatures and extreme chemical conditions without deterioration of performance
